![]() "Losing" isn't normally fun for me at all, but this game forces you to taste it. To my painstaking efforts of making them a perfect home. One of the things I had to learn in order to enjoy DF more was to "let go" a little with my attachment to the dwarfs. And it can still happen to experienced players. You are by no means the first person to have a Forgotten Beast wipe their entire fort. It's earned a reputation for exactly what you just experienced. I don't know where on earth you ever read that DF would always be 'fair'. Take a deep breath and do realize that this is actually normal. There was absolutely no way to avoid it that I can figure out. The remaining populace could've hidden or fought, and either way this SoB would kill them. My entire military at its peak, in the most advantageous of circumstances, got wiped out. I can't think of anything I could've done differently. but it almost never nails you to the wall with random events just because it hates you.Īnd yet here I am. I've heard a lot about dwarf fortress being tough but fair, and that if you're going to lose it's going to be due to something stupid you did, a mistake you made, etc. This thing proceeds to wipe out my entire military without breaking a sweat, and then proceeds to chop my fort's populace down from 160 to 0. My entire force engages him at once, and I'm reasonably confident I'll win - even if it means taking casualties. I don't want to take any chances, so I gather my entire military might at my primary cavern entrance. Checking out the alert, he looks pretty formidable. ![]() Mid-summer, I get a notification that a forgotten beast has spawned. Everyone is equipped either in leather with steel crossbows, or with full steel plate. I've defended against troglodytes, draltha, gremlins, anything that's come up. Most dwarves pretty happy, got a handful of squads alternating between training/patrol and being off duty, and have all of my fort entrances defended - some with traps, all with military presence. I've been over 50 dwarves for a few seasons now (currently at 68 ) but no mayor has been elected.Well, on a note unrelated to my original post, I've been convinced to put the game down for a little while to vent my frustration. trying to manage without a manager is tough but i'm almost there, currently at 44 dwarves! (Also I build a retractable bridge roof over the fort in case any flying undead come near again! )Įdit 2: No luck. ![]() Is there any way I can get my nobles screen back? I think this happened because I only had a child for awhile.Įdit: i'm trying to stick it out until a mayor is possibly elected at 50 dwarves to see if that will fix it. I can't appoint a military leader because my nobles screen is simply blank: Problem is, now I've got an undead Mosquito Woman harassing my peeps, but I can't create a military because I have no military leader. It wasn't easy going from 20 dwarves to 7, but hey, my fort was alive again so I didn't mind. I had them break down a wall to get in the fortress, they managed to take care of the mantis and get everything started again. He was stuck in the fortress with the Mantis, (I raised the drawbridges too late) and I was just waiting for the kid to die and my fort to be over.īut then, migrants arrived. Half of the land is haunted, and I had two Giant Undead Mantises kill absolutely everyone except one child. My fortress ( ) went through some heavy stuff.
